Support Dial-up Networking for Windows 9X

To get to your Dial-Up Networking section in Windows 95/98, follow these simple instructions :

  1. Double click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
  2. Double click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.
  3. Locate your SAMnet connection icon (likely named "SAMnet") and right-click it.
  4. On the context menu, click on "Properties". This will launch the properties window for your connection.

Now, you can check the settings on each tab listed in the window. The only two tabs that we need to deal with are the "General" and the "Server Types" tab. Under the "General" tab, be sure your local access number is typed in correctly. If you do not know your access number, click here to find it.

Click on the "Server Types" tab. You'll find a list of checkboxes here. Be sure only "Enable software compression" and "TCP/IP" are checked. If any other boxes are checked, uncheck them.

  1. Click on the "Server Types" tab.
  2. Be sure only "Enable software compression", and "TCP/IP" are checked. If any other boxes are checked, uncheck them.

That's all that you need to check in the Dial-Up Networking section.
